How the Creatine Price Index Works
How the Creatine Price Index Works
The Creatine Price Index is a weekly updated tool that helps you see at‑a‑glance how much popular creatine monohydrate products cost per gram in both the UK and the US. Instead of just listing prices, the index standardises costs to show price per 100 g and price per 5 g (roughly one serving). This makes it easy to compare value across different pack sizes and brands.
We aggregate current prices across major UK and US retailers, calculate cost per 100 g and per 5 g, and track week‑to‑week changes to highlight genuine value. Each update uses the same transparent methodology: we monitor equivalent plain creatine monohydrate products, update prices manually from verified retailer listings, and annotate special promotions or limited‑time deals. By standardising on cost per gram and clearly stating discounts, we eliminate brand marketing noise and reveal the true price you pay for creatine.
Why a Price Index?
Creatine is a commodity ingredient, yet the retail price can vary dramatically between brands, pack sizes and regions. A kilo tub of unflavoured creatine monohydrate might cost £22 in one store and £40 in another. Without a common denominator it’s hard to judge whether you’re overpaying or getting a deal. The Creatine Price Index solves that by:
Converting every product to cost per 100 g and per 5 g. A 1 kg tub at £22.99 works out to £2.30 per 100 g and £0.11 per 5 g. That means you can compare it directly against a 500 g pouch or a smaller 400 g bottle.
Updating weekly. Prices are checked every week (usually on a Monday) so you can see the latest deals and trends. We also display the percentage change from the previous week to highlight genuine sales versus marketing hype.
Covering two regions. Many readers shop in both the UK and the US. The index shows separate tables for each region with equivalent products wherever possible. We'll be rolling out an EU comparison soon.
Our index promotes financial transparency and protects consumers from overpaying. It also supports our mission of fostering an informed creatine community: readers use the index as a starting point for exploring our research‑driven articles on dosage, safety, cognitive benefits, loading vs. maintenance, and brand comparisons.
Methodology
Product Selection: We track a curated list of plain, unflavoured creatine monohydrate powders. Flavoured blends, chewable tablets and multi‑ingredient formulas are excluded for fairness. New brands are added when they become popular.
Data Collection: Each week we record the pack size, retail price, and any sale price on major platforms (e.g. Amazon, brand websites). For affiliate links we always disclose sponsorship.
Cost‑Per‑Gram Calculation:
Price per 100 g: (price ÷ grams) × 100
Price per 5 g: (price ÷ grams) × 5
This normalises everything so that a 1 kg pack and a 400 g pack can be compared directly.
Best Value Badge: The product with the lowest cost per 100 g in each region gets a Best Value badge for the week. If two products tie, both receive recognition.
Change Column: We calculate week‑on‑week change to expose fake promotions. A “–5 %” means this week’s price is 5 % lower than last week. A “0 %” means no change. Positive percentages indicate price increases.
How to Use the Price Index
Pick Your Region: Use the tabbed interface (UK vs US) to switch between markets (EU coming soon!)
Scan the Table: Look at the Price / 100 g and Price / 5 g columns. The lower numbers indicate better value.
Check the Notes: Our notes column flags genuine limited‑time deals and calls out “fake promos” when retailers claim big discounts but haven’t actually lowered the price.
Follow the Links: If you find a product you like, the View link takes you directly to the retailer. Some links are affiliate links; buying through them supports Creatine Insider at no cost to you.
Read the Rundown: Beneath the table, we publish a short weekly summary highlighting the best value, biggest price moves, and one insight about market trends. This provides context beyond the numbers.
Benefits
Save Money: By comparing cost per gram across brands and pack sizes, you can avoid overpaying for the same ingredient.
See Real Trends: Weekly percentage changes let you spot genuine sales, seasonal pricing patterns and creeping price increases.
Make Informed Choices: Whether you’re a beginner stocking up or an experienced lifter considering a new brand, the index helps you choose wisely.
Linkable Resource: Because the index lives on its own URL, you can bookmark and share it. Search engines and large language models can easily crawl and reference the data.
